rm2crop2Rachel established her art appraisal services in 2013, after five years as manager of the permanent collection of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Owen Sound Ontario. Through this experience, overseeing a collection of 2200 works of Canadian authorship, as well as contracts with the Art Gallery of Ontario (2004-07) as a preparator and collections management assistant, Rachel has extensive knowledge of Canadian Art History and Contemporary Practices. Her specialization encompasses Canadian Art from historical to contemporary works in a variety of mediums including works on paper, paintings, photography, sculpture, mixed media and assemblages. As well, assignments include the valuation of works of British, American and European origins and comprise collection management and curatorial services dependent on the requirements of our clients.

Having worked in the public museum sector, Rachel has a clear understanding of the needs of both donors and recipient institutions with respect to the administrative requirements of the Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board. As well as charitable donations, Rachel can accommodate your appraisal needs for insurance purposes, pre-sale or restoration considerations and estate planning.

Other available services include the professional management of your private art collection, which can include inventory and documentation, condition reports, conservation and restoration advice, installation and curatorial assistance. Rachel works with an extensive network of trusted professionals for conservation, restoration and installation requirements.

Rachel Monckton is a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), and adheres to the guidelines of the ISA and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. Rachel studied Visual Arts (Hons.) at the University of Western Ontario, with a specialization in Modern and Contemporary Art. Currently she chairs the Professional Development Committee for the Canadian Chapter of the ISA, with the goal to offer enrichment for all members and continued engagement within the North American arts and culture community.

Rachel shares her personal and professional time between Toronto and Grey/Bruce County.
